Fallingwater
Fallingwater, one of Frank Lloyd Wright's most famous houses, is located only minutes away from Ohiopyle. Next time you are in Ohiopyle, make sure you take the time to stop and visit Fallingwater. It is a place you will not soon forget.
Fallingwater was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and constructed in the 1930's. It was originally a home for the Kaufman family, of the Kaufman department store name. The design was ahead of its time.
It is not built to view the falls on Bear Run, as the Kaufman's requested, it was built ON the waterfall. The house extends out over the 30 foot waterfall. Even though the falls were diffucult to see from the house, they were not hard to hear. Wright really wanted the Kaufmans to feel as if they were living with the waterfall.
Today, you can take tours through Fallingwater and on the grounds it was built upon. The tours guide you through the house and discuss the house and the history surrounding it. Each tour is lead by a professional tour guide.
