Cucumber Falls

Cucumber Falls

Cucumber Falls, located in Ohiopyle State Park, is one of the most visited attractions in Ohiopyle.

There is a parking lot for Cucumber Falls off of Chalk Hill Road, directly off of Rt. 381 (the main road going through Ohiopyle). During the summer it is not uncommon for the parking lot to be full, so try to get there early in the morning or later in the evening. Those times are much less crowded.

After parking in the Cucumber Falls parking lot, you will make you way down the trail into Cucumber Gorge. This is a pretty short hike, less than 200 yards, however, the journey back up is fairly steep. The hike is well worth it. As you ascend down the trail you will have many breath-taking views of the entire gorge. The tangled trees, huge boulders and rocky cliffs will make you feel like you stepped back in time. The trail brings you to the base of Cucumber Falls. You can even walk right behind the falls.

If you continue down Cucumber Falls Trail, you will arrive at the Yough River. When you arrive at the river, if you look to the left you will see Cucumber Rapid, if you look right, you will see Entrance Rapid, both rapids on the Lower Youghiogheny.

Cucumber Falls Run

Cucumber Run

Cucumber Run flows from high up in our mountains down to the Youghiogheny River. As it does, it creates Cucumber Falls and Cucumber Gorge. On the right you can view a photo of Cucumber Gorge. This area is very rocky with large boulders and twisted trees everywhere. It is a unique area in Ohiopyle.
